THIS MUST BE THE BAND:
This Must Be The Band is a Chicago based Talking Heads tribute band. They approached me recently in need of a logo. The band gave me complete control of the design, with only one stipulation: make sure people will understand This Must Be The Band is the actual name of the band.
With so much creative freedom, I came up with tons of ideas trying to highlight the fact that This Must Be The Band is the band’s name. Finally, in my head, I said, "I wish I could just point to the name!" The result was a stylized illustration of a hand pointing to the band’s name.
I drew the hand and the typography used for the name. The band is very personable and really knows their growing fan base. It is much like a family. With that in mind I designed the logotype to give a feel of handwriting. The handwritten feel is warm and inviting, and yet at the same time it is very stylized and unique, just like This Must Be The Band.
